Update (05/14/18): This list currently has Drupe as an entrant. It is a really good contacts and dialer app. However, recent security vulnerabilities are causing a big fuss about the app. The security vulnerabilities are gone, allegedly. Thus, weâre leaving the app on here for now, but with a warning to our readers to click that link and check out what happened. We have also moved Drupe to the bottom of the list as a bonus and added a different app in our top five.
Dialer apps and contacts apps are a bit of a niche market. In most cases, the stock dialer and contacts app is more than good enough most of the time. However, there are some cases where it may be necessary. The Note 8 occasionally freezing while using the contacts app is a good example. In any case, there are a bunch of decent options, but only a few really good ones. Also, we considered doing separate lists for contacts apps and dialer apps. However, generally speaking, if you get one, you get the other too. Both lists would pretty much have the same apps. Thus, weâve consolidated it into a single list here. Here are the best dialer apps and contacts apps for Android.
Replace more stock apps with awesome third party counterparts!
10 best email apps for Android! (Updated 2019)10 best Android file explorer apps, file browser apps, and file manager appsaddappt
addappt is a capable contacts app. It features all of the usual stuff, including the ability to quickly call and text your contacts. Additionally, the app contains some social media features such as updates, photos, emoji, and more. This one is best for those who like to keep it personal, although those looking for a minimal contacts app may need to look elsewhere. They also don't store your address book or messages on their servers. That's always a plus. It's had its ups and downs, but it's honestly not half bad.
ExDialer
ExDialer is one of the better dialer apps and contacts apps. This one features support for 30 languages, includes a smart dialer (with T9), and boasts a faster, lightweight experience. It also includes a variety of plugins, gesture controls, and little Easter egg commands to make things easier. It rounds out the experience with a simple, easy, Material Design UI. The free version is a five day trial. The full version is a separate unlocker app that coasts $3.99.
Simple Contacts
Simple Contacts is, well, a simple contacts app. It requires no extraneous permissions and it has no fancy tricks up its sleeve. It's just a simple app for managing your contacts. You can also manage email contacts as well as events. There is also a dialer as well. That's about all this app does, really, and that's okay. Sometimes you want to strip away the extra niceties and just have a simple place to manage your contacts list. This app does that admirably. It's also open source and has no ads. There is a free version. However, it's not longer under active development in favor of the premium version. Thus, if you want the actively developed version, it runs $0.99. We think that's reasonable
Iphone Call Filter AppSimpler Contacts and Dialer
Simpler isn't as popular as some other dialer apps or contacts apps. It probably should be. Simpler features an improved caller ID, functions to control duplicate contacts, social network support, over 40 themes, and more. It also has call blocking, offline backup, and tools to clean up your contact list a little bit. The app rounds everything up in a simple, good-looking Material Design interface. There really isn't much wrong with this one aside from a bugs here and there. The app is free to download with an optional pro version available via in-app purchase.
Truecaller
Truecaller is one of the most popular and powerful contacts apps and dialer apps. It even works as an SMS app. It includes a laundry list of features for the dialer, contacts, and SMS portions of the app. That includes an SMS spam filter, call blocking, dual-SIM support, and a lot more. It also boasts the best caller ID out there. The interface uses a basic Material Design. We're not going to complain about that! The only real downside is the price. This is one of the only dialer apps or contacts apps with a subscription. It's not necessary to use the basic features, but $17.99 per year is a little steep for our tastes.
Bonus: Drupe
Drupe is one of the most popular dialer apps on mobile. It features a modern, beautiful interface along with a call recorder, smart dialer, call blocker, and methods to deal with duplicate contacts. It can even send GIFs to people when you call them, but both people need to have Drupe installed for that to work. The app covers all of the basics and does many of them better than the stock app. It has the occasional bug, but nothing serious. It's free to download for the most part. Some features require purchase via in-app purchases. This app also had a security issue earlier in 2018. It's resolved now, but we still recommending treading with caution with this one.

Call History Search allows you to search by name or number in your call history, but is limited in the number of records it searches.
The description for Faves says 'See talk time, last call, number of in and out calls per contact; Individual call logs per contact;'.
I've not used either app, but found them in a search of the Play Store. Caveat emptor.

View a contact (either from the Contacts app or by clicking them in the Phone app). Then press the menu hard-key, and History is the first item on the list.
Note: my Samsung Galaxy S III has been upgraded to Android 4.3, so I've no idea if the method is the same in Android 4.1.2, or if this is something Samsung has added since then. If anyone is still on 4.1.2, please check and comment!

I have Google voice, in addition to my cell carrier's assigned phone number, so this may not be true for everyone, but you can use Google Takeout to download all your data for any Google service you use. Just go to www.google.com/settings/takeout, and pick the services you want to review. Google will pack them all up in an archive which you can then download and search. A little painful if you do this on a regular basis, but a life-saver if you need to check something that is no longer on your phone, but is kept in your online history.

Try aPhoneMeTiX app. In this app you can generate reports based on data, person, type of call (incoming/outgoing). You can email that report on your email address. This is free app without any restriction.

You are unable to filter the call log for a specific contact in 4.1.2 You would have to find an application on the Play store to do that for you.

I posted a similar question to this elsewhere and was pointed to this thread, which did not really answer my question either. Posting my question, I thought that I may get some answers here, as it is, after many hours searching and trying various apps out, I have found a few apps that provide solutions myself, the best two of which I will list below.
I was looking for an app to show 'call' & 'sms' 'history'/'logs' for an individual contact, so using these search terms I found many, the best stand alone one I found is called 'My Log' from 'Intangible Solutions' which is able to search and list all calls and sms for any given number or multiple numbers in a very clear and easy to read format. Download call of duty 3 pc. The drawbacks is that it is heavily add supported and takes a little while to specify all the contact's numbers, as you have to select them one at a time, having said this, the results are brilliant.
The other I found via an associated app call 'Call log+' which I tried and initially dismissed as it only gave me call log similar to the one found in the standard 'Phone' dialler, however I later went back to it's associated app 'Contacts+', which includes 'Call log+', 'Messages+' and 'Dialler+', and then also installed 'Merge+', 'Emoji for Conacts+' and the 'Contacts+ Widget' to get the full collection, which can replace the standard 'Phone', 'Contacts' and 'Messaging' functions with much better versions, that do far more. The 'Contacts+', which includes 'Call Log+' does everything I wanted, in that I can instantly see a call log for any contact. The fact that 'Contacts+' does a whole lot more beyond this, is also fantastic, but it does exactly what I wanted, so job done.
I hope this may help others looking for the same missing (removed) feature, which because of how I use my phone, I would find hard to live without.

SMS backup +, copies your call logs to your GMail account which then groups them by contact

Not sure it does anything
Update #2: It would be really nice to have Verizon address directly the question of why so many calls are labeled robocall, potential spam call, etc. but they still ring through? This has been asked in numerous reviews and Verizon still has never given an answer that Iâve seen other than some generic nonsense.
Update: After using this for several months, Iâve probably only seen maybe two calls blocked. Since virtually all spam calls nowadays appear to be spoofed, I donât think reporting a number really does anything. Sometimes the scammers even seem to be spoofing legitimate numbers. Until Verizon has a way to deal with spoofed numbers, I donât really see a way to effectively block spam calls. Iâm not sure this app does anything. I canât say Iâve seen anything blocked. It has identified some calls as âpotential spam.â However, even though I have the app set to block all spam, including potential spam, these calls still merrily come through and are not sent to VM. Verizon has such a good network. Itâs kind of embarrassing they donât have a more effective call blocker app. I wonât even talk about Verizon charging $3 per month for this app. Not effective
Ok, this app is getting a lot of bad reviews for the wrong reasons. This is a Verizon app and is for Verizon users. You have to setup in your Verizon account prior to installing the app or it wonât install properly. The basic app is free, while the app with extra features has a monthly payment.
Now, having cleared the air on that, why am I giving 1 star. The app is totally ineffective at stopping the most common type of spam call which is the spoofing of real numbers. I installed when the app first came out. I get about 10 spam calls per day. During the time I have had the app installed, I have received only one spam notification while all of the other spam calls have gone through thus stopping about 1%. I have the filter set at the highest setting for stopping spam. I will keep the free version installed for a few more weeks to see if the blocking abilities improve. If it worked I might be willing to upgrade to the premium version, but not at this point. If blocking does not improve, I will uninstall the free version. With current capabilities the app is not even worth being free. App works as it should.
I see a lot of really bad reviews. A lot. And they are all coming from pretentious individuals who believe everything should be handed to them. So letâs settle this. Your number is public information. It can be found easily. Spam calls, robo-calls, whatever you want to label it, are not very different from spam emails. Youâre going to get them. This app will help keep the amount of those calls from coming through, but it doesnât stop them all. It canât, realistically. Iâve been issuing since day one, and as time goes on, I get less and less spam calls. If youâre using this app, do your part and report those spam numbers as they come it. Thatâs how the database is built. By the consumer. Is that too much work for you? Then drop your service with Verizon, toss you phone in the trash, and start using smoke signals. Because that is the ONLY way you can stop all the spam calls.
